It’s official; the holidays are here. And it’s this season that typically brings with it gatherings, get-togethers, and reunions. If you plan on making any festive season trips, you must familiarize yourself with some safety best practices. Sure, you’ll want to stay up to date with your Ford service needs and integrated Ford parts, but more can be done. Here are some safety tips for your festive trip this holiday season.

1. Check Tire Pressure

No one wants to deal with a blowout during the holidays (or any time of year, for that matter). Ensuring you have adequate tire pressure is essential. This vigilance will is for your safety and others. What’s more, fuel loss, compromised traction, and less stability are all the results of low tire pressure. So be sure to remain on top of this for the holiday season.

2. Inspect Windshield Wipers

Your wipers can wear fast, particularly when your vehicle is left outdoors. So you’ll want to check your front and rear wipers: Squirt washer liquid to ensure your wipers can clean the glass effectively. Also, see if your demisters are operating as an unexpected mist-up could be hazardous.

3. Top Your Fluids

Even though car fluids are usually inspected during routine service checks, ensure you inspect them on your own accord frequently. This check includes brake fluid, transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, etc.

4. Probe Your Spare Tire

A straightforward yet crucial assessment is ensuring you have a spare tire setup. This framework includes a jack, a wheel spanner, and the spare tire itself. Ensure each piece of equipment is in proper working condition. This simple check could save you a lot of heartache and frustration if you have a blowout during your festive trip.

5. Scrutinize Your Battery

Dead batteries result in defective vehicles. And if you’re on a winter highway to see family in a neighboring city, this is not a favorable situation. Car batteries typically require replacements every couple of years, occasionally sooner. A good indicator of a dying battery is a sluggish sound when starting your vehicle. If you experience this, get your battery checked as soon as possible.

6. Take Your Time

Most people are in such a rush during the holidays—don’t be one of them. Slow down and take your time; you’ll feel more composed, and you’ll ensure the safety of others. This tip is especially relevant for the holidays, as winter compromises driving conditions. Trying to spare a little extra time by rushing is not worth it. Plan to leave earlier if you want to be punctual; it’s much better than attempting to fight traffic on icy roads.

7. Buckle Up

What’s the first thing you’re taught when learning to drive? Put your seatbelt on! So often, we forget the basics of driver safety. However, these simple yet forgotten rules will keep us safer than anything else during the holidays.
